I was having dinner with my family when my son said “Pop, when we were young, you worked a lot. Don’t get me wrong, we understood why you worked as much as you did and we benefited from all of your hard work, but you were gone a lot!”
My son was right. I worked too much.
I missed teaching him to ride a bike, to drive, or to swim. I was building a business while missing moments I could never get back.
Here’s the irony of entrepreneurship: we start a business to be free, then the business owns us. We trade presence for profit. Memories for milestones.
I won’t let another founder make that same trade.
